The Walker line of catalytic converters from Tenneco Inc. offers significantly increased coverage of OBDII and older applications, as well as vehicles registered in California, thanks to Tenneco’s aggressive investment in the development of new direct-fit converter SKUs for domestic and foreign-nameplate models.

The expanded Walker converter product line now includes Walker Ultra converters, designed for late model OBDII applications with more demanding computer controlled engines; Walker CalCat California-approved converters; and standard Walker converters for pre-OBDII applications. Each converter offering includes both premium direct-fit and universal units to meet the needs of virtually any customer.

“Shop owners and technicians rely on Walker for converters that fit just like OE and help reduce the chance of a comeback,” said Frank Murkowski, North American Aftermarket emissions control marketing manager, Tenneco. “Our expanded converter line offers an excellent solution for virtually any application, as well as a true business-building platform for distributors and service providers.”

Walker Ultra converters feature precise pipe routings and OE-style connections and mounting hardware. Each Walker Ultra converter is loaded with precisely calibrated, aftermarket-engineered catalyst technology that helps speed repair and reduce malfunction indicator light (MIL)-related comebacks on even the most problematic OBDII vehicle models. Tenneco’s leadership as an OE catalyst supplier has led to the development of a variety of innovative approaches to common MIL issues on many OBDII applications.

Walker CalCat California-approved catalytic converters features the same quality fitment as the Walker Ultra converters, combined with an updated catalyst technology to meet the stringent new 2009 California Air Resources Board regulations.

Walker converters for pre-OBDII applications are equipped with a carefully calibrated precious metals catalyst for exceptional performance and durability.

Oxygen Sensor And Catalyst Efficiency

The catalyst efficiency monitor verifies that the catalytic converter is operating at a high enough efficiency rating to keep exhaust emissions within predetermined values. The PCM compares the signals from the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors to determine the state of the converter. These “tests” are called the readiness monitors.
