New TransTec Global Transmission Guide Available

Transmission professionals can identify automatic transmissions in virtually any vehicle in the world, including models as current as 2014, with the new TransTec Transmission-by-Vehicle Guide available on the Web, as a mobile app and as a printed reference.

Transmission professionals can identify automatic transmissions in virtually any vehicle in the world, including models as current as 2014, with the new TransTec Transmission-by-Vehicle Guide available on the Web, as a mobile app and as a printed reference.

Developed specifically to eliminate confusion over look-alike transmissions, the reference guide identifies transmissions by vehicle make, model, year and engine. Users can select Acura, for example, to determine that a 2010 RDX with L4 2.3L engine has a 5-speed, front wheel drive transmission (model BT3A).

“We published the original Transmission-by-Vehicle Guide back in 1996 and have enjoyed expanding this convenient reference and making it more accessible on the web and as a smart phone app,” said Patty Richards, senior marketing manager for Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies. “This guide is so easy and convenient to use, transmission professionals have realized it is an indispensable tool."

The updated Transmission-by-Vehicle Guide is available as a printed 120-page reference that includes a new interchange identifying TransTec overhaul kit numbers for transmission applications. The updated Transmission-by-Vehicle Guide and overhaul kit interchange can also be viewed on the Web or as a mobile app, both of which are continually updated so users always have access to the most current and comprehensive vehicle listings, TransTec says. Refinements to the smart phone app also include a convenient “back” button simplifying the search function for transmission models.

The TransTec Transmission-by-Vehicle guide was developed to make it easier to access technical support from Corteco, the supplier of TransTec brand transmission kits. The printed reference is now in its 11th edition and builds upon the company’s tradition of supporting transmission professionals.

Alternator Testing For No Charge Conditions

Many alternator problems turn out to be nothing more than a bad connection at the alternator or a bad wiring harness.

If only battery voltage is present at the battery on a running engine, does this mean the alternator is “bad?” No, it does not. It only means that the alternator is not charging, but does not reveal why. Therefore, it does not point to a faulty alternator. All too often, the alternator is condemned by technicians due to this test alone. The cause could instead be a module that distributes the power to the vehicle and regulates the alternator.
