Yes It Can Be Done! Cycle Concept Inc. has put together a comprehensive fast lube package designed for the auto industry. Contrary to popular belief, motorcycles can be serviced in the same operations as autos. The team at Cycle Concepts has worked with two major quick lube companies and devised a package that will enhance traffic and profitability for all that think “outside the box.”

Some would say “motorcycles need special tools, special training, and bikers won’t go to a fast lube car shop.” Well, Cycle Concept’s consultants have been to the two companies and observed the footprint and layouts of both operations, studied their procedures and interviewed their personnel. The outcome was in most cases the facilities needed slight modification to lifts in use, a wheel balancer and the proper inventory.

There are motorcycle techs working for you now and if there aren’t, Cycle Concepts have both UTI  (United Technical Institute) and MMI (Motorcycle Mechanics Institute) as a partner for employee placement.

There are three packages available. These packages can work in both stand-alone and franchise situations and include inventory, IT integration, sales and tech support. The additional sales and profits are yours as there’s no royalties or franchise fees.

Lifter Deactivation

The area of contact between the lifters and cam lobes is the highest loaded surface inside an engine.

The basic function of a valve lifter is pretty simple. It sits on the camshaft and transfers the motions of the cam lobe up through the pushrods and rockers to open and close the valves. The size and shape of the cam lobe under the lifter (multiplied by the ratio of the rocker arms) determine valve lift and duration. As such, the lifter just follows the motions of the cam. But, it does play a role in valvetrain lash (clearance) and noise.
