Pamper your vehicle at Andrews Transmission and Car Care

Tim Lane, master technician and shop foreman at Andrews Transmission, and co-owner Delaine Andrews are seen at the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association Conference for the Gulf States Chapter in Biloxi, MS.
At Andrews Transmission your automobile’s care is their top priority.

“We have been a leading specialist in the repair and overhaul of transmissions for import and domestic vehicles since opening the shop in January of 2000,” said co-owner Delaine Andrews in giving some insight into the shop’s services.

In January of 2008 the name changed from Andrews Transmissions to Andrews Transmission & Car Care to more adequately reflect the comprehensive automobile care offered there. “Due to complexity of today’s vehicles and multi-systems, where each relies on the other, an engine related problem could be misdiagnosed as a transmission problem,” explained Delaine who, along with long-time employee and Master Technician Tim Lane, manages the shop.

Delaine has a motto that she tells every technician that is hired: “We are not in the automotive repair industry. We are in the transportation industry.”

Most customers’ needs vary, she said. It may be that this is their only mode of transportation and they need it fast, it may be that they only need this car to last another year, or they are on a limited budget. “Whatever the reason, when a customer comes to Andrews Transmission & Car Care, we do our very best to meet that person’s needs,” she continued.

Lifter Deactivation

The area of contact between the lifters and cam lobes is the highest loaded surface inside an engine.

The basic function of a valve lifter is pretty simple. It sits on the camshaft and transfers the motions of the cam lobe up through the pushrods and rockers to open and close the valves. The size and shape of the cam lobe under the lifter (multiplied by the ratio of the rocker arms) determine valve lift and duration. As such, the lifter just follows the motions of the cam. But, it does play a role in valvetrain lash (clearance) and noise.
