Police: Stamford man caught stealing car radios

March 8, 2011

STAMFORD – A city man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he was caught red-handed stealing two radios from cars after a Henry Street service station owner saw him breaking into cars on his lot, police said.

George Kendall, 49, of 8 Woodland Place, Stamford, was charged with two counts each of third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny and possession of burglary tools.

The owner of S&T Auto Repair waived down a passing police car a minute after midnight after a man who he had been following threatened him with a stick, Sgt. Mike Scatamacchia said.

The owner said he saw the man, later identified as Kendall, breaking into a car on his property behind a fence. The owner followed the man a short distance in hopes of getting back whatever stolen items the man had.
