With more than 170 new part numbers covering primarily Class 8 vehicles, this brand new catalog provides listings for nearly every type of filter used on heavy duty vehicles including oil, air, fuel, transmission, coolant, hydraulic filters and fuel/water separators. New product categories include cabin air filters and air dryers.

The new Purolator Heavy Duty Filter Applications Catalog now covers more applications with more types of filters than ever before, presenting them in easy-to-follow alpha-numeric listings which make it faster and easier to identify the correct filter part number for any application. At more than 700 pages, this new Purolator Heavy Duty Filter Catalog is particularly detailed, plus all equipment manufacturers are shown in one section (no separate on-road or off-road sections) in order to simplify its use.

“We’ve had good coverage for heavy duty vehicles with our oil, air, and fuel filters,” said John Enright, senior product manager for Purolator Heavy Duty Filters. “This new catalog reflects our expanded class 8 vehicle coverage plus the addition of new types of filters we have not offered before. We are recognized as an industry leader with our coverage for automotive/light-duty vehicles and it is our intention to continue to expand our line of heavy duty filters to achieve that same recognition for heavy duty vehicles. We plan to continue to expand coverage for medium duty over-the-road (OTR), agricultural, and mobile off-road (OFR) applications.”

“Furthermore, we have added over 27,000 heavy duty OE and competitive cross references to the Filter Finder section of our website www.purolatorautofilters.net, enabling our customers to easily find the right Purolator heavy duty filter for their needs.”

“Those servicing heavy-duty and commercial vehicles can also get online answers to virtually any filter-related question by contacting our Purolator PROs, our team of technical experts who will provide a personal reply to anyone with a question about filters within 48 hours,” said Enright. Purolator PROs can be contacted through the Filter Hotline at 1-800-526-4250.

Copies of the new Purolator Heavy Duty Filter Catalog (PUCT209) are available from Purolator Heavy Duty distributors or by calling Purolator Customer Service at (800) 637-0580. The Catalog is available in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Lifter Deactivation

The area of contact between the lifters and cam lobes is the highest loaded surface inside an engine.

The basic function of a valve lifter is pretty simple. It sits on the camshaft and transfers the motions of the cam lobe up through the pushrods and rockers to open and close the valves. The size and shape of the cam lobe under the lifter (multiplied by the ratio of the rocker arms) determine valve lift and duration. As such, the lifter just follows the motions of the cam. But, it does play a role in valvetrain lash (clearance) and noise.
