Hunter Engineering and Champion Wheel & Tire, Inc. Team Up to Keep NASCAR Rolling Smooth

Champion Tire & Wheel, Inc. utilizes the Hunter GSP9700 Road Force Measurement System exclusively to measure and evaluate virtually every racing wheel used in NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series races.

Champion Tire & Wheel, Inc. utilizes the Hunter GSP9700 Road Force Measurement System exclusively to measure and evaluate virtually every racing wheel used in NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series races. After the information is gathered using a GSP9700, it is saved to bar code labels, which are attached to each wheel identifying its specific measurements. Champion then delivers the wheels to the teams on race day, where they are match-mounted with Goodyear racing tires using the wheel data provided by Champion and the tires’ force variation data provided by Goodyear.

Champion also completely assembles wheels and tires for NASCAR testing using a GSP9700 and the Hunter TC3500 Tire Changer. First the wheels are measured on a GSP9700 and then match-mounted using a TC3500. The wheel assemblies are then remeasured for excessive road force variation and balanced again using the eight GSP9700s at the Champion service facility. Daily output of the match-mounted wheels can reach 1,200 units, totaling more than 100,000 assemblies per season.
