What are the leading causes of catastrophic claims and substantial losses for repair shops? When OSHA comes knocking, will you be ready?

Universal Underwriters Group, a provider of insurance, loss prevention and income services to automotive service and aftermarket businesses, has assembled a useful list of “hot topics,” specifically for service and parts departments within independent repair shops.

While not every event is preventable, there are some areas of a repair shops’ business that are particularly risky. By understanding those areas, a shop owner can more precisely focus safety efforts and possibly prevent large claims and losses from occurring.

Some of the topics were pulled from the top-10 list of OSHA violations for automotive repair facilities. Others were obtained from Universal Underwriters’ claim files and experience.

To view the list, along with a variety of other useful shop safety information, visit the Universal Underwriters’ Loss Prevention Library, which can be accessed at www.universalunderwriters.com and clicking on the “Online Resources” tab at the top of the home page.
