For Details Plus Collision Center in Indianola, IA, business is always booming during deer season. So this year, the shop is sweetening the pot for those clients whose vehicles have had unfortunate run-ins with one of Bambie’s relatives by passing out free turkeys.

“Every deer season, we’re looking for something different to do," Debbie Seifert-Benesh, who co-owns the shop with husband Allen Benesh, told the Des Moines Register. "We have such a good following, I just wanted to do something fun. I’d like to make it an annual event."

According to information released by State Farm, deer hits have increased 20 percent over the past five years. State Farm also ranked the state where deer hits occur most often: Iowa was second to West Virginia, which has been No. 1 for four years. Following Iowa on the list are Michigan, South Dakota and Montana.

Benesh said she got the idea from an out-of-state shop, and she hopes the fun promotion will help put a positive spin on a negative experience. With Thanksgiving around the corner, shops doing brisk deer business might consider a similar giveaway.
