Kevin Harvick and the Champion spark plug-powered No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet secured the top seed in the 2012 NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup with a victory in Saturday night’s Wonderful Pistachios 400 at Richmond (VA) International Raceway. Harvick, who has four wins and seven top-five finishes in 2011, is the spokesperson for Federal-Mogul’s Champion brand.

Harvick, who led five times for a race-high 202 laps, beat the field out of the pits with 15 laps remaining and held off challenges by four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards to capture his 18th career victory.  This is the fifth time in six seasons he has qualified for the season-ending Chase.

“(Crew chief) Gil Martin and his team did a great job getting Kevin back on the track first and the No. 29 car had the power it needed to pull away on the restart,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson. “Champion has helped power the engines for all four of Kevin’s Cup wins and all three of his Truck Series victories this year, which says a lot about the technology and proven performance of our latest generation of spark plugs.”

“Performance Driven” Champion spark plugs are available through thousands of automotive products suppliers across North America. Champion plugs have contributed to hundreds of wins covering virtually every form of racing, including NASCAR, NHRA, Formula One, motorcycle, go-kart and snocross. In fact, Harvick, who won seven national and two Grand National go-kart championships, has long relied on Champion to ensure race-winning power and reliability.

“Champion is the best plug when you’re trying to eliminate performance variables that could cost you a race,” Harvick said. “Federal-Mogul’s ignition engineers have taken the brand’s technologies to an entirely new level in racing plugs as well as the plugs used in almost any other engine.”
