She also packs her 7-year-old dog, Daisy.

The long-haired Chihuahua is often the first set of eyes that greet customers at Hometown Auto Service.

"I’ve often said she should be employee of the month. She loves coming to work," Sevcech said of her dog.

Sevcech is among a growing number of pet owners nationwide that take their dogs to work. The majority of companies that welcome dogs are small, start-up firms that offer a flexible work environment or large, high-tech firms looking to attract employees or retain current workers, according to Dogfriendly.com.

Friday is national "Take Your Dog to Work Day," a yearly event established in 1999 by a North Carolina-based organization called Pet Sitters International.
