“Performance Driven” Champion spark plugs from Federal-Mogul fired the engines of six of the top eight finishers, including race winner Matt Kenseth’s No. 17 Roush-Yates-powered No. 17 Ford Fusion, in Monday night’s Daytona 500. Champion plugs also swept the front row in pre-race qualifying, with Carl Edwards (No. 99 Ford) capturing the pole and Edwards’ Roush-Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle (No. 16 Ford) starting second.

Champion plugs have played a dominant role in NASCAR Cup Series racing for more than 40 years and are a leading choice of premier Sprint Cup engine builders.  Available through performance parts suppliers across North America, the Champion racing plugs used by NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series teams feature Federal-Mogul’s latest surface gap designs to help optimize spark location within the combustion chamber for maximum burn rate. According to the company, each plug is equipped with a solid nickel core electrode for maximum performance and thermal efficiency in today’s most sophisticated engines.

“We had a little bit of everything here tonight, including an extended period with engines off, but Matt’s Champion-fired Ford had more than enough power down the stretch to capture the win,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson. “This is another great piece of history for one of the automotive industry’s best-known and most respected brands.”
