Fel-Pro Brand’s HTA Exhaust Header Gasket Technology Gains Widespread Use in NASCAR Competition

Innovative Fel-Pro HTA performance exhaust header gaskets from Federal-Mogul have helped Dodge- and Toyota-powered NASCAR teams eliminate the risk of gasket failure caused by extreme heating and cooling cycles. These new gaskets are now available through any Fel-Pro performance gaskets supplier.

The HTA (High Temperature Alloy) technology is ideally suited to engines that generate extremely high exhaust temperatures.  As temperatures increase, conventional stamped and stainless steel parts begin to lose spring tension and strength, potentially leading to interrupted exhaust flow. Even at temperatures of up to 1,600º F, the Fel-Pro HTA material maintains hardness, creep resistance and dynamic sealing capabilities that are superior to 301 full-hard stainless steel.

“This same technology has quickly become an industry standard in turbocharged heavy-duty diesel engines and other high-temperature applications that exceed the capabilities of conventional materials,” said Ron Rotunno, performance product manager, Fel-Pro gaskets. “NASCAR engine builders identified the exhaust manifold gasket as an area of concern with rising exhaust temperatures and Federal-Mogul and Fel-Pro answered with the only proven solution to this issue.”

The Fel-Pro HTA gaskets are now available for the Toyota PH11 and Dodge R7/P5 NASCAR engines.

Belts and Pulley Alignment

A misalignment of the plane of the belt can occur when a pulley is not parallel to the other pulleys on the belt drive system.

Drive Belt Alignment Alignment is key to the health of an engine belt. The belt drive system is designed to create friction between the grooves on the belt and pulley to transfer power from the crankshaft to the alternator, water pump or power steering pump. If the grooves on the belt do not align with the pulleys, the friction won’t be evenly applied and can result in wear and noise.
