Moog Brand’s NASCAR Championship Streak Reaches 40 Years with Tony Stewart’s 2005 NEXTEL Cup Title

Stewart’s second career NASCAR Cup points championship (his first came in 2002) was powered by consistently high finishes – including five wins, 17 Top-5 and 25 Top-10 performances – throughout the grueling 36-race series. His Joe Gibbs Racing-owned Monte Carlo, like a vast majority of NEXTEL Cup entries, is equipped with the latest Moog steering and suspension technology. Moog began its 40-year streak of NASCAR championships in 1966 with driver David Pearson.

"Moog engineers celebrate every NASCAR title, but our 40th consecutive championship is truly something special," said Jay Burkhart, vice president of global marketing for Federal Mogul. "We’re extremely proud to have played an important role in helping drivers like Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Cale Yarborough, and Richard Petty become NASCAR champions. And we’re already hard at work developing new technologies for the next generation of racing legends."

NASCAR teams rely on Moog to deliver precision-balanced steering and suspension components that maintain the accurate alignment angles necessary for race-winning performance. The same approach to engineering and building Moog components for NEXTEL Cup racing is applied to each of the brand’s products for virtually any popular passenger vehicle.

Moog’s latest design breakthrough – an all-new high-performance ball joint featuring a polished full-ball stud, CNC-machined housing and threaded and pin-locked cover plate – was the dominant choice of drivers and teams in the 2005 NEXTEL Cup series. The new Moog Performance ball joint, named the best new performance-enhancing product at the 2005 Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo in Las Vegas, is now available for a full range of racing and street performance applications.
