Affinia Group’s Winchester, KY, Friction R&D facility was recently recognized for providing crucial brake services (including installation of donated Raybestos brand brake parts) each year for transport vans for the Lexington-area Shriners Hospital for Children.

Greg Benson, an Affinia R&D engineer and active member of the Oleika Shrine Center of Lexington, made the initial and important connection between Affinia and the Shriners Hospital. The hospital provides transportation, treatment and housing free of charge to both patients and family members.

Chris Shepley, Affinia R&D Director, recently accepted a plaque commemorating the Shriners appreciation for numerous brake services performed on the transport vans used to transport children to and from the Shriners Hospital in Lexington. Drivers of the vans provide valuable feedback to the Affinia R&D team regarding performance and brake noise under normal vehicle operation.

“Affinia is pleased to assist the Shriners Hospital for Children in helping to provide these special children with the valuable service of safe transport to and from their treatment,” Shepley said.

Shriners Hospitals for Children operates twenty-two pediatric specialty hospitals across the U.S. The Lexington hospital is equipped and staffed to provide care for virtually all pediatric orthopedic problems. The Shriners provide services to many children throughout the world.
