Line’s Reaction Time Key In NHRA Royal Purple Win

Jason Line used a minimal reaction time to collect his 30th NHRA Pro Stock victory when he beat Shane Gray in the O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway.

Jason Line used a minimal reaction time to collect his 30th NHRA Pro Stock victory when he beat Shane Gray in the O’Reilly Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway.

Line was one of four drivers to win a final round race on Goodyear Eagles. The others were Bob Vandergriff (in Top Fuel) and Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car) in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series for professional racers. Randy Meyer (Top Alcohol Dragster) won in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsmen.

Line beat Shane Gray in the final round with a .007 of a second reaction time at the starting line. Gray’s elapsed time was the same as Line’s (6.589 seconds), but because he started after Line did, Gray was unable to catch Line. Line’s margin of victory was still only .0488 of a second, roughly 15 feet.

Mike Edwards leads the Pro Stock standings with 532 points. Allen Johnson is next with 465.

Vandergriff beat Langdon for the first time. Tony Schumacher leads Antron Brown 510-440 in the Top Fuel standings.

Cruz Pedregon beat Tim Wilkerson in the Funny Car finals with a 4.246-second, 296.96 mph pass. The win helped Pedregon take the lead in the standings. He leads Matt Hagan 470-433.

Randy Meyer beat defending national champion Jim Whiteley in the TAD final, an all-Goodyear race. Whiteley leads the 2013 TAD standings.
