The Tenneco Technology Tour (T3) and Monroe Ride and Drive experience, Tenneco Inc.’s signature undercar service training programs for North American automotive technicians and parts professionals, are expected to reach more than 8,000 participants over the course of a 36-city schedule in 2009. Tenneco will also expand this year’s T3 curriculum, which combines hands-on diagnostic education and in-depth technical and selling skills training covering automotive ride control, brakes and emissions control systems.

The tour, which enrolled more than 7,000 automotive professionals last year, will kick off 2009 with a two-day session in Philadelphia starting April 7 and conclude October 27 in Portland, OR. It will visit 28 U.S. states, seven Canadian provinces and at least one location in Mexico.

“The Tenneco Technology Tour and Monroe Ride and Drive represent one of the aftermarket’s most effective training experiences, evident in the strong business improvement for participating shops,” said T.J. Fontana, manager of training and operations, North America aftermarket, Tenneco. “Technicians come away from this hands-on training with a new set of diagnostic and communication skills, all of which help drive sales and customer satisfaction.”

The centerpiece of the T3 program, the Monroe Ride and Drive enables technicians to feel the ride and handling differences between popular vehicles equipped with new ride control components and identical vehicles fitted with worn shocks and struts. This interactive experience features a fleet of late-model test vehicles, a specially designed test track, a training area for detailed diagnostic instruction, and a broad range of technical displays.

In addition to covering diagnostic procedures, ASE Master-certified T3 instructors help participants learn how to explain to consumers the value of ride control part replacement. Other discussion topics cover the performance exhaust and suspension categories. Between tour stops and throughout the year, Monroe field training professionals and Tenneco’s aftermarket sales team also provide on-site technical education in hundreds of additional locations.
