The "Search for a Champion" contest, which begins October 24, 2011, is part of an aggressive initiative designed to drive loyalty to Champion technologies among a new generation of customers who demand premium performance from every engine and vehicle they own.

The legendary Champion spark plug, filter, wiper and performance chemicals brand from Federal-Mogul Corporation will connect with millions of new fans, amateur racers, street rodders, powersport enthusiasts and other “Performance Driven” consumers through an innovative Web-based video contest that will award a total of $100,000 (USD) in motorsports sponsorships.

The “Search for a Champion” contest, which begins October 24, 2011, is part of an aggressive initiative designed to drive loyalty to Champion technologies among a new generation of customers who demand premium performance from every engine and vehicle they own. The Champion brand has expanded beyond its spark plug line to represent broad new offerings of automotive filtration products, wiper blades and performance chemical additives. These products are available through thousands of automotive parts, performance, lawn-and-garden, hardware and other locations across North America.

Through the “Search for a Champion” contest, Federal-Mogul will award each of five finalist prize winners a $10,000 (USD) motorsports sponsorship and one grand-prize winner a $50,000 (USD) sponsorship for submitting videos that best demonstrate their ability to win a racing championship in 2012. Entries will be accepted from amateur teams participating in any form of engine-driven racing, whether on earth/dirt, asphalt, snow, ice, water or other course. Judging will be based on viewer voting on the brand’s popular www.AlwaysaChampion.com website as well as input from NASCAR driver and team owner Kevin Harvick. (See www.AlwaysaChampion.com for contest rules.)

The contest was announced by Harvick, driver of the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet in Sprint Cup racing and official spokesperson for the Champion brand. “I got my start racing go-karts, so I know what a sponsorship can mean to a small race team,” he said. “This program enables Champion to give back to the sport that has helped make it one of the world’s most popular brands by supporting local racers who have what it takes to capture a title in local and regional racing.”

Contestants may submit their video entries via the www.AlwaysaChampion.com  website beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. Deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 31, 2011. Visitors to the www.AlwaysaChampion.com site will be able to vote for their favorite video entries between Jan. 2 and Feb. 5, 2012, and Federal-Mogul will announce the five $10,000 sponsorship winners on Feb. 23, 2012, in conjunction with the beginning of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season.

Online voting for the $50,000 sponsorship will run from Feb. 22 through March 21, 2012, with the Champion grand-prize sponsorship winner announced April 2, 2012.

The Champion brand and iconic bow tie logo can be seen in virtually every form of racing worldwide. Champion products include globally respected Champion spark plugs; Champion oil, air and cabin air filters; Champion wiper blades; and Champion performance additives for the automotive and lawn-and-garden markets.
