Engine Fuel Trim Diagnosis And O2 Sensor Performance

A useful diagnostic tool is to determine if the fuel trim problem exists in more than one engine operating range. Fuel trim should be checked at idle, at 1,500 rpm and at 2,500 rpm. In addition to these no-load checks, drive the vehicle at various steady load conditions and watch for fuel trim variation.

Problems That Plague Chrysler’s 3.5L Engine Create Rebuild Opportunities

If ever there was a service opportunity ripe for the taking, Chrysler’s 3.5L SOHC V6 engine (and its 2.7L, 3.2L and 4.0L cousins) is it. This engine was introduced back in 1993 as an “upgrade” from the earlier 3.3L pushrod V6 engine. Some would question whether the move was a step forward or backward because the 3.5L V6 (and its variants) has a poor reputation for reliability.

Servicing The Chrysler 3.5L Engine

If ever there was a service opportunity ripe for the taking, Chrysler’s 3.5L SOHC V6 engine (and its 2.7L, 3.2L and 4.0L cousins) is it. This engine was introduced back in 1993 as an “upgrade” from the earlier 3.3L pushrod V6 engine. Some would question whether the move was a step forward or backward because the 3.5L V6 (and its variants) has a poor reputation for reliability. Lubrication issues, oil sludging, coolant leaks, overheating and low-mileage engine failures have plagued this engine family from the get-go.

Catalytic Converters: New Diagnostic Strategies

Catalytic converter failures on today’s vehicles are rarely caused by defects in catalytic converters. Most catalytic converter failures can be traced back to problems caused by what happens in the combustion chamber. Almost every part on the engine determines how long it will last. It could be a faulty line of computer code that pulses an injector too long, or it could be a stuck piston ring that allows oil to be sucked into the combustion chamber. These little details can limit the life of a catalytic converter.

Uncovering Potential Repair Issues On Mazda3

In this article, we’ll take a look at routine services on a Mazda3 and some of the more common problems that may be uncovered as they are performed. Our shop has always subscribed to 30,000-, 60,000- and 90,000-mile major service intervals with oil changes and inspections at a maximum of 5,000 miles. That may not exactly match the factory recommendations, but it works well for our customers and us, and covers all of the recommended services.

Dorman Announces Release Of Its 2013 Service Dealer Guide, Vol. 2

Dorman Products Inc. has announced the release of its new 2013 Service Dealer Guide, Vol. 2. This new Service Dealer Guide, featuring more than 100 formerly “Dealer Only” parts, is being distributed now.

Diagnosing Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)

Exhaust gas recirculation is the dilution of the air/fuel mixture to control amounts of exhaust gas. Since exhaust gas does not burn, this lowers the combustion temperatures and reduces NOx emissions from the engine. At lower combustion temperatures, very little of the nitrogen in the air combines with oxygen to form NOx. Most of the nitrogen is simply carried out with the exhaust gases.

Servicing Chrysler’s Versatile 3.3L And 3.8L Engines

These engines have a mixed reputation for being high-mileage, dependable powerplants as well as noisy motors that can fail at relatively low mileage. Some 3.3/3.8L V6s have racked up well over 200,000-plus miles on the odometer with no major problems (except some oil burning), while others have called it quits at 70,000 to 80,000 miles.

Dorman Products June New Product Announcement Features More Than 280 Parts

Dorman Products has released its June New Product Announcement featuring 290 new parts, 45 of which are exclusive formerly “Dealer Only” parts. One of these new products is a PCV diaphragm for popular Volkswagen vehicles from 2012-06, which enables technicians to replace just the failed original diaphragm, not the entire valve cover.

Diagnosing Rough Idle On Chrysler 2003 Town & Country

According to the owner, the 3.8L Town & Country had been driven for quite awhile with an illuminated Check Engine light and a rough idle condition. As the vehicle was driven, the idle condition worsened until the engine wouldn’t idle in gear unless the driver applied the throttle. Of course, the vehicle owner had assumed that the rough idle complaint was caused by only one component failure and would therefore be relatively simple to repair.
