VIDEO: Diesel Exhaust Fluid Winter Tip

Andrew Markel shares a quick tip about diesel exhaust fluid and why the level sensor may show as low in the winter, even when it is topped off.

ACDelco Launches New Diesel, Collision And eAssist Training

The web-based courses are less than three hours long, and there are no enrollment prerequisites.

The Search For Increased Longevity And Durability In Diesels Continues

Modern diesel engine platforms offer a great source of power potential regardless of the manufacturer. I suppose that is why the mid-size diesel truck has become so popular among the younger generation. Take an engine that already makes power and find ways to make more. Turbocharged diesel engines have a huge amount of power gains when “tweaked” in the right direction. The same can be said for pulling trucks and drag racers with diesel engines. In theory, the diesel engine comes to “life” when combustion temperatures reach 2,500 degrees F.

Diesel Engine Grant Program Nets Major Air, Public Health Benefits, According To EPA Report

The program has saved 450 million gallons of fuel and prevented 4.8 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions - equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions from more than 900,000 cars.

Diesel Oil PC-11 Will Soon Be Changing

PC-11 will now define two separate heavy-duty diesel lube oils. PC-11A is scheduled to be commercialized in March 2017. This oil performance category will address pre-2017 engine designs and all the various XW-40 and XW-30 grade oils on the market since much is known about their actual field performance.

Diesel Particulate Filters

The EPA has lowered diesel fuel sulfur content from 500 ppm (parts per million) to 15 ppm. This new ultra-low sulfur fuel has been available since October 2006. All 2007 and later diesel engines must comply with the new regulations that require the reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbons (HC) by 50% and particulate

Be Careful When Replacing That Diesel Air Filter

Modern passenger and light-duty diesels with ECMs have mass airflow sensors and precisely control fuel delivery. Key to the efficiency and lifespan of the diesel engine is the diesel air filter. A restricted air filter will not affect fuel economy but will drastically affect power output. We asked prominent filter manufacturers for some diesel air

Dayco To Showcase PowerBond Diesel Performance Harmonic Balancers At PRI 2014

To cater to the growing diesel-fueled passenger truck market, Dayco Products announced it will showcase its newly added PowerBond Diesel Performance Harmonic Balancer product line during the Performance Racing Industry’s (PRI) annual trade show, Dec. 11-13 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind. Designed as a high-performance alternative for diesel powered passenger trucks, PowerBond

Diesel Exhaust Fluid: Not Just a Heavy-Duty Application

You may notice a new product on the parts store shelf that goes by the name Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and is helping diesels of all sizes meet more stringent emissions standards. DEF is not just a heavy-duty- or import-only product. It’s being used in vehicles ranging from 1.8-L to 7.0-L diesel engines. Early applications

Maintaining The Cooling System On The 6.0L/7.3L Powerstroke Engine

One of the most overlooked preventive maintenance items in a diesel engine is the coolant system. Maintaining the coolant system is just as important as an oil change – in fact, the coolant condition in a diesel engine may even be more important than in a gasoline engine.

Diesel Particulate Filters: Regeneration

The increased use of EGR valves has led to a bigger problem with soot. So, in order to trap the soot, the government has mandated that all trucks built after Jan. 1, 2007, have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and a catalytic converter. In simple terms, the DPF is a huge screen that traps the soot coming from the engine. This filter looks like a rocket shell underneath newer trucks. The DPF has temperature sensors and pressure tubes used by the PCM to help in determining when the DPF screen is full. When the DPF needs cleaning it undergoes what is called “regeneration.”
