Smog technician gets one year for illegally certifying cars

A former smog check technician was sentenced Wednesday to one year in Los Angeles County Jail for illegally certifying cars at two Los Angeles smog check locations.
The technician, Jermaine E. Williams, was found guilty of submitting false information and vehicle registration information to the state, said Glenn Mason, a spokesman for the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Williams was given credit for 450 days served. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution.
