Navistar is leading the way in developing solutions to environmental issues like climate change by implementing strategies to address both stationary and mobile sources of greenhouse gas emissions. This week, the International truck dealership service network begins to take delivery of “state-of-art” mobile A/C service equipment designed to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve HD truck A/C service efficiency and provide cost savings to truck dealer service shops by capturing more than 95% of refrigerant during recycling operations.

With the implementation of SAE’s J2788 A/C recycling and recharging standard, Navistar Inc. made the strategic decision in 2007 to implement a unique A/C service machine acquisition program for International truck and IC Bus dealerships. The program would include the co-development of an all-encompassing A/C service machine that would incorporate the best A/C service technology available in the world and incorporate features and functionality to enhance dealership service efficiency and productivity with a world-class mobile A/C service equipment developer and manufacturer.

RTI Technologies, Inc. of York, PA, was selected by Navistar to be the exclusive supplier of its custom specified, SAE J2788 compliant A/C service equipment to its International vehicle service network.

“The RTI ArcticPRO RHS980 machine serves as the platform for the International branded A/C service product and incorporates a wide array of newly designed productivity features to dramatically increase dealership A/C service profitability and quality of repair,” said Vaughn Allen, VP of customer service and product support, Navistar, Inc. “We are delighted to have partnered with RTI to produce the worlds most advanced and shop efficient R134a refrigerant A/C service machines and are excited to see these new units now being delivered to our vehicle service network.”

The new SAE J2788 compliant RHS980C-NAV A/C service machine features many critically important specifications including fully-automatic operation; an on-board truck A/C system specification data base; TechALERT, an exclusive remote paging device to provide the technician real-time machine operation status during an A/C service; machine function upgradeability via memory stick for future operation enhancements/revisions; both deep vacuum pull-down cycle and high refrigerant pressure cycle to validate vehicle system integrity and to quickly locate system refrigerant leaks; vehicle A/C system performance evaluation capability before and after the service; a refrigerant reverse flush cycle to isolate and extract harmful contaminants from the vehicle A/C system and more!

Kelvin Butz, VP of marketing and new business development for RTI explained, “With all of the features RTI incorporated into this new machine, the International vehicle service network will have an upgradeable A/C service platform that will be consistent and current for years to come. This new technology promotes green on all fronts…”green” in the form of greenhouse gas reduction and “green” in the form of improved operation efficiency for International vehicle service providers! Navistar is truly in the forefront of merging two colliding global issues confronting today’s transportation industry into a common solution.”
