Redline Detection, a leading provider of OEM-approved automotive diagnostic leak detection equipment, has announced the winner of its 2014 Redline Rock Star Performance Award. Christian Opfer of SK Motorsport was selected by the Redline Technical Advisory Board as the winner and received $2,500 in cash and prizes from Redline Detection.

Opfer, an ASE Certified Master Technician, works for SK Motorsport in Bellingham, Wash. He was nominated by Steve Knowlton, owner of SK Motorsport, for his extraordinary commitment to technical excellence and continued education in the field, as well as his community involvement. Opfer is known for creating and improving tools to speed up repairs or improve the shop environment. He also uses his problem-solving skills to create test procedures for issues that do not yet have procedures and attends industry trade shows to learn about new tools and techniques. Opfer is active in his community through the Fraternal Order of Eagles and raises money for diabetes and domestic violence awareness. In his free time, he enjoys sailing and often volunteers to help underprivileged young people in the area learn to sail.

“Redline has always valued and supported technicians, and as we continue to grow, we are thrilled to be able to demonstrate our admiration for these hard-working men and women who are out there doing a fantastic job every day,” said Alex Parker, executive vice president of Redline Detection. “This award recognizes a technician for their commitment to the industry, their job and their community — the same values our Redline team strives to adhere to every day.”

According to Parker, Redline received hundreds of nominations for worthy technicians around the nation, underscoring how talented technicians are moving the field forward. The company said Opfer stood out from the others through his continued work in advancing his technical skills and knowledge and for his commitment to making a difference in his community.

“I am truly honored to receive this award,” said Opfer. “It’s great to have my work recognized.”

Redline Detection named Gil Longtin of German AutoSport in Amesbury, Mass., and Elvin Bruno of Berkshire Motors in Sandy Hook, Conn., runners-up in the competition.

The Redline Technical Advisory Board is made up of seven of the industry’s most influential members, all from different areas of expertise and all with a strong commitment to the future of technical education in the industry. This year’s board is comprised of professionals at the top of their field, each working in a different segment of the industry, including aftermarket, OEM, mobile distribution, technical training, garage ownership and performance racing. It is at the helm of the company’s technical education platform called Redline Tech Academy.
