Quaker State recently announced the launch of its Fuel Economy Challenge, the mission to save drivers $1 million of gas in the U.S. and Canada in the coming months. To achieve that goal the Quaker State brand will be offering consumers a comprehensive toolkit of resources including helpful tips and a new product offering providing ways to potentially increase a vehicle’s fuel economy.

Among the resources provided to consumers to help them save, the new Quaker State Fuel Economy Calculator (see www.QuakerState.com) will offer drivers tips on improving fuel economy based on actual specifications of their vehicle. The tips focus on physical modifications drivers can make to their vehicles, ranging from tire pressure adjustments to removing excess weight in the trunk, directly impacting fuel economy.

“With this mission to provide real value and save drivers money, we want motorists to connect with the brand in ways beyond our products,” said Gita Gidwani, Quaker State global brand manager. “The Fuel Economy Challenge speaks to the mission of Quaker State to position the brand as an overall vehicle-value resource for drivers, especially when it comes to fuel economy and automotive longevity.”

Other tactics being employed by Quaker State to help drivers save at the pump and reach the $1 million mark include a series of informative videos featuring fuel economy world record holder Wayne Gerdes, who will be helping Quaker State deliver the online video content detailing additional ways to help consumers maximize fuel economy.

In addition to physical modifications that aren’t under hood, drivers can also look to the brand’s product offering for an additional way to save. Earlier this year, consumers were introduced to reformulated Quaker State Ultimate Durability Full Synthetic Motor Oil, designed to deliver motorists a fuel economy savings of an average of five cents per gallon* while providing unsurpassed protection against friction-related wear.

Potential savings captured via the online Calculator will continue to be tallied on QuakerState.com until the $1 million goal is reached. A rolling ticker will live on the homepage allowing web visitors to check in and find out the latest overall savings from around the country.

Alternator Testing For No Charge Conditions

Many alternator problems turn out to be nothing more than a bad connection at the alternator or a bad wiring harness.

If only battery voltage is present at the battery on a running engine, does this mean the alternator is “bad?” No, it does not. It only means that the alternator is not charging, but does not reveal why. Therefore, it does not point to a faulty alternator. All too often, the alternator is condemned by technicians due to this test alone. The cause could instead be a module that distributes the power to the vehicle and regulates the alternator.
