A fire damaged an auto repair shop on the Westside this morning, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

No one was injured, but $15,000 damage was done to the shop and two cars.

An alarm alerted firefighters at 8:30 a.m. to the fire at Romero Service, 3215 Lafayette Road. The fire apparently started in a Nissan Maxima that had been left in the shop for repairs, according to a statement from Capt. Rita Reith, fire department spokeswoman.

The Nissan had been left elevated on a lift, and firefighters had to put out the fire with the car still elevated because they could got get the car back on the floor.

Flames from the burning Nissan and a second car spread to the shop’s roof insulation, and firefighters had to cut through the metal roof with a saw to reach the burning insulation. Firefighters got the flames under control within 15 minutes of their arrival.
