Former Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan was involved in a two-car accident Friday in Wakefield, MA, when the left front wheel came off her Chevy Tahoe and hit a passing minivan.
The tire/wheel assembly hit the driver’s side bumper of the minivan and ripped a hole through it. Kerrigan then lost control of her vehicle and hit the van, occupied by a mother and her two children. No one was injured.
"It’s a little shaken up … I’m glad everybody and the kids are okay. It’s scary … it’s a scary thing,” Kerrigan told local media.
Kerrigan had the wheel of her Tahoe repaired Wednesday morning, and police said it appeared the lug nuts were not properly fastened to the vehicle.
In fact, she was on her way to get the problem repaired when the accident occurred, according to local reports.
Police say Kerrigan does not seem to be at fault for the accident.
