MOOG Chassis Parts Undefeated in Chase After Jimmie Johnson Wins at Dover; Jeff Burton Crew Chief Todd Berrier Wins ‘Problem Solver’ Award

Federal-Mogul Corporation's MOOG steering and suspension brand is two-for-two in the 2010 Chase for the Sprint Cup as Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet dominated the action in Sunday's AAA 400 at Dover (DE) International Speedway.

Federal-Mogul Corporation’s MOOG steering and suspension brand is two-for-two in the 2010 Chase for the Sprint Cup as Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Lowe’s/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet dominated the action in Sunday’s AAA 400 at Dover (DE) International Speedway.

Johnson beat another MOOG-equipped car – Jeff Burton’s #31 Chevrolet – to the finish line by 2.637 seconds on Dover’s “Monster Mile.” Following the race, Burton’s crew chief, Todd Berrier, received the MOOG “Problem Solver of the Race” Award in recognition of the #31 car’s hard-charging performance after having qualified in 27th position.

The MOOG Problem Solver of the Race Award is presented to the crew chief whose car posts the largest increase in average lap speed during the second half of each Sprint Cup event while finishing on the lead lap. Burton’s car picked up a race-high 0.005-second per lap on Dover’s concrete oval.

“This was a great race for cars that had the right chassis setup and a real battle for those that didn’t,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson. “The top two finishers had the advantage of MOOG steering and suspension components that were precisely tuned to the track conditions. Jimmie enjoyed that advantage all day long, and thanks to Todd Berrier’s work in the pits, Jeff and the #31 car used it to make a great charge in the second half.”

Johnson, the four-time defending Sprint Cup champion, started on the pole and led a race-high 191 laps. After starting in the 14th row, Burton picked up five positions through 120 laps and was running 12th near the halfway mark. He ran in the top five through most of the final 200 laps.

The 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup continues next Sunday with the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway.
