Racing team-owner and driver Robby Gordon launches his Stadium SUPER Trucks (SST) Series at the University of Phoenix Stadium on April 6. All trucks featured in the series are being built in Gordon’s shop using equipment from his longtime NASCAR and Off-Road partner, Lincoln Electric.

The SST series will kick off the NBC-televised season in April with a minimum of 12 events scheduled throughout the United States and potential international events. The SST vehicles are highly-modified trucks that resemble those produced by automobile manufacturers, powered by 600-HP, V-8 engines and racing on DOT-approved tires.

All of the trucks are fabricated in Robby Gordon’s Speed Factory garage in Charlotte, N.C., with welding equipment supplied by Lincoln Electric. The company has been Gordon’s exclusive welding supplier for the past decade as Gordon competed in NASCAR, SCORE International (Baja) and Dakar Rally events. That relationship continues as Gordon transitions to series ownership.

"Lincoln Electric has been an integral part of keeping our NASCAR and Off-Road race cars together for years, and I’m excited to keep them as a partner as our welding needs have increased to thicker and larger materials,” Gordon says. “The guys in the shop have been putting the welders to the test using Lincoln’s SuperArc wire."

Lincoln Electric equipment used to produce the SSTs includes Power MIG 350MP push-pull MIG welders to weld aluminum brackets, as well as Power MIG 256 MIG welders that target mild-steel joining. Precision TIG 275 TIG welders join brackets and specialty parts. Lincoln Electric consumables used in the shop include SuperArc L-56 MIG wire for steel and SuperGlaze 4043 wire for aluminum. Gordon’s fabricators also use Lincoln Electric Torchmate CNC plasma cutting tables to produce a variety of truck parts.

This season, SST racers will have the opportunity to win a $60,000 purse each weekend — the top three finishers split the purse — and the overall series champion will be awarded a $500,000 prize at the end of season.
