It’s National Tire Safety Week, And Here Is Why

This week, as you may know, is National Tire Safety Week. And, as the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) points out in its latest survey of American drivers, there is still a lot for them to learn.

In its new national survey, the RMA found that only one in six U.S. drivers is "tire smart" when it comes to checking tire pressure. And that women are less likely to know basic tire care than men, and that younger drivers (18-39) are less likely to know basic tire care compared to older (60+) drivers.

According to the survey, around 20% of men and 14% of women know to check tire pressure monthly, to check tires when they are cold (before driving), and know where to find the correct inflation pressure for their vehicle’s tires.

Twenty-seven percent of drivers aged 60 and older are "tire smart" while only 8% of drivers 18-39 know the basic tips for properly checking tire pressure.
