The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA), in conjunction with the Motorist Assurance Program (MAP), has prepared a resource publication listing state regulations concerning automotive repair estimates and invoices and is making it available as a member benefit.

The State Regulations Affecting Auto Repair Facilities: State Requirements for Estimates & Invoices contains a listing for each of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia showing requirements for creating estimates and invoices.

In most states, repair shops must provide a written estimate prior to the commencement of repairs. The estimate must include all the parts, materials and labor which in the standard practice of the trade or industry would normally be included in the repairs for which the estimate was requested.

State Regulations Affecting Auto Repair Facilities: State Requirements for Estimates & Invoices is available for download as a PDF in the Member section of the AMRA website (www.amra.org). It was consolidated from the individual state regulations (which are also listed on the AMRA site), providing an easy-to-use source of information.

Other specialized custom reports compiled from the state regulations include Emissions, Inspections & Hazardous Waste as well as Shop Fees. In addition, AMRA/MAP has produced a supplement covering Altered-Height Vehicles. All are available at no extra cost to members at www.amra.org.

“These publications provide a key resource to our member companies,” said Barry Soltz, AMRA/MAP president. “By having access to these publications, AMRA members can find the information needed to make their business trustworthy and successful in the eyes of current and potential customers.”
