Dorman Products Inc. has announced the release of its new 2013 Service Dealer Guide, Vol. 2. This new Service Dealer Guide, featuring more than 100 formerly "Dealer Only" parts, is being distributed now.

The guide features Dorman’s newest formerly "Dealer Only" parts, which reduce dependency on the OE dealer and provide professional technicians and do-it-yourselfers with a better choice in automotive replacement parts, Dorman says.

Dorman says the new guide features great examples of the company’s commitment to providing its customers with added value; throughout the new Service Dealer Guide, are new parts that are re-engineered to eliminate original failure modes, complete kits that include everything needed for a professional installation, and parts that enable service dealers to replace just the failed original piece – not an entire original assembly.

Highlights of Dorman’s new Service Dealer Guide include: direct replacement steel wheels, console lid kits, PCV diaphragms, third brake lamps, steering shafts, transmission filler cap lock pins, driveshaft couplers, keyless entry remotes, water outlets and more.

Accompanying the launch of Dorman’s printed guides are a companion video and a digital flipbook edition of the guide. A preview video is available on Dorman’s YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/dormanproducts, under the ‘Service Dealer Guide’ section.

Lifter Deactivation

The area of contact between the lifters and cam lobes is the highest loaded surface inside an engine.

The basic function of a valve lifter is pretty simple. It sits on the camshaft and transfers the motions of the cam lobe up through the pushrods and rockers to open and close the valves. The size and shape of the cam lobe under the lifter (multiplied by the ratio of the rocker arms) determine valve lift and duration. As such, the lifter just follows the motions of the cam. But, it does play a role in valvetrain lash (clearance) and noise.
