“Performance Driven” Champion spark plugs from Federal-Mogul Corporation powered four of the top five finishers, including race winner and Sprint Cup points leader Kevin Harvick, in Sunday’s NASCAR Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
The near sweep at MIS continues the Champion brand’s dominance in 2010 Cup series action, with Champion-powered cars also winning last week’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips event at Watkins Glen International, the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 August 1 at Pocono Raceway and the Brickyard 400 July 25 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
In addition to Harvick, Champion-powered finishers at MIS included Carl Edwards (#99 Ford, 3rd place), Greg Biffle (#16 Ford, 4th) and Matt Kenseth (#17 Ford, 5th). All four drivers are firmly entrenched in the prospective field for the season-ending Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Harvick and the #29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet pulled away from the pack with 10 laps to go after having skipped a tire change during the race’s final caution. The win extended Harvick’s series lead to 293 points over Jeff Gordon.
“In several races this year, we have seen Champion-powered cars pull away from the field in the closing laps. That’s as powerful a statement as you can get when it comes to overall plug performance and reliability,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson.
Champion racing plugs feature leading-edge surface-gap designs that enhance spark location for maximum burn rate of each cylinder’s air-fuel charge. Each plug is equipped with a solid nickel core electrode for maximum performance and thermal efficiency in today’s most sophisticated racing engines. The same Champion plug designs used in NASCAR competition are available through any Champion spark plug dealer.
