Audi Key Can’t Be Removed From Ignition

Audi Tech Tip: Key Can’t Be Removed From The Ignition

The customer will complain that the key can't be removed from the ignition when the vehicle is in park. In some cases, the driver will not be able to move the shift lever from the park position. On vehicles with the Advance Key System, the car can not be locked after the engine has been shut off.

Affected Models:
All Audi models from 2013-‘15.

Condition: The customer will complain that the key can’t be removed from the ignition when the vehicle is in park. In some cases, the driver will not be able to move the shift lever from the park position. On vehicles with the Advance Key System, the car can not be locked after the engine has been shut off.

Diagnostics: When the gear lever position data PID is observed with a scan tool, it will not show the lever is in the park position. DTC 00230 will be stored in the body control module, indicating the Transmission Park Selector Switch F305 has a short circuit to ground.

Cause: The module is sporadically recognizing the park selector switch, and the key and locking mechanisms are not sending the signal to allow the key to be removed or the locks to work remotely.

Correction: If the conditions can be replicated and DTC 00230 is stored, Audi recommends replacing the gear selector mechanism wiring harness with part number 4F0971697.
