The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced a new member benefit for ASA shop owners who accept extended warranty work from their customers. Outlining common practices of extended service plans (ESPs), ASA’s guidelines include a number of tips and recommendations to help streamline the repair process and ensure a positive experience for the customer as well as the repair facility.

The popularity of ESPs is increasing as vehicles become more complex. ASA’s guidelines for shop owners include helpful suggestions on efficient ways to verify coverage, write repair orders and submit claims.

“This publication provides helpful advice and answers frequently asked questions about ESPs. This information is intended to help our members have a thorough understanding of ESPs, their potential benefit to consumers, and their potential benefit to repair shops,” said Robbie Addison, ASA’s Mechanical Division manager.

The association created this document under the guidance of ASA’s Mechanical Division Operations Committee and its Extended Service Plan Advisory Subcommittee. Designed to be used as a business tool for ASA members, a PDF version of the ESP guidelines may be downloaded from the Members Only section of the ASA website (www.ASAshop.org). To learn more about ASA’s member benefits or how to join the association, call (800) 272-7467, ext. 295; visit www.ASAshop.org; or access the electronic benefits portfolio within ASA OnDemand, which can be downloaded from www.ASAOnDemand.com.

The Automotive Service Association is the largest not-for-profit trade association of its kind dedicated to and governed by independent automotive service and repair professionals. ASA serves an international membership base that includes numerous affiliate, state and chapter groups from both the mechanical and collision repair segments of the automotive service industry.

ASA advances professionalism and excellence in the automotive repair industry through education, representation and member services. For additional information about ASA, including past news releases, go to www.ASAshop.org, or visit ASA’s legislative website at www.TakingTheHill.com.
