ALLDATA recently announced another victory in its aggressive enforcement action against organizations and individuals involved in intellectual property piracy. Launched early this year, ALLDATA continues its antipiracy initiative to protect its customers and products.

“Intellectual property piracy is a common problem that hurts many companies. To be effective, we must respond decisively,” said Susan Slish, manager of the company’s Security Program. “Due to the increasing number of piracy cases, ALLDATA is committed to take legal action against all organizations and individuals that distribute unlicensed versions of ALLDATA products and services.”

Recently, ALLDATA sued Leroy R. Reber from Fort Worth, TX, for trademark infringement, unfair competition and copyright infringement. ALLDATA was awarded statutory damages in the amount of $150,000 and more than $15,000 in attorney’s fees and costs, and ALLDATA also obtained a permanent injunction against Reber.

ALLDATA is not the only target of intellectual property piracy. According to the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the software industry annually loses about $12 billion worldwide from piracy $2 billion in North America alone.
