Akebono Brake Corp. has announced that both its EURO and Performance brake pad lines are already fully compliant with state regulations that require low copper content in brake pads beginning in the year 2021. According to Akebono, these pads have been compliant with the stringent formulae called for in the regulations since the product lines were launched in 2005.

“Akebono has for years been a leader in friction technology development, as is evident in the performance of our pads and the fact that they met the 2021 regulations 16 years in advance,” said Ken Selinger, director, Akebono aftermarket sales and marketing. “In addition, our Pro-ACT, EURO and Performance lines are 100 percent made in the USA, something that differentiates us from the competition.”

Akebono states that as an originator of ceramic brake technology, the company offers some of the most application-specific friction formulations in the market. Akebono’s ultra-premium ceramic brake pads are OE-engineered to enhance the model-specific performance demanded by each vehicle, the company says.

“Our continued focus on leading with technology allows Akebono to meet 2021 regulations without compromising the superior performance our customers have come to expect from us,” added Selinger.

Akebono’s friction products are factory-installed on more than 270 models.

Long-Life Coolants Explained

Different types of coolants cover a range of applications from diesel to domestic, Asian and European vehicles. Each one is formulated to a specific manufacturer’s specifications to keep their engines at an optimal temperature. But, changes to the old one-size-fits-all formula has led to confusion for consumers and even some technicians.

Diagnosing Intelligent Cooling Systems

The majority of cooling systems on the roads react to what is happening inside the combustion chamber. After the engine is stressed, the heat causes the thermostat to open. Increases in temperatures will also cause the cooling fans to come on. The heat carried by the coolant is the trigger for operation of the fans and thermostat.

Modern Cooling System Design: It’s Not About Temperature; It’s About Powertrain

Given the advanced state of internal combustion engine technology, some recent cooling system innovations will actually increase engine torque and fuel economy while reducing exhaust emissions. Let me simplify that idea: new cooling system technology will make engines run better and cleaner. So, let’s get on the same page by reviewing some basics.
