Verizon Expands Hum Lineup; Aims To Make Driving Safer, Smarter And More Connected

Hum customers can now choose between three options, including the premium HumX service, which includes a brand-new Wi-Fi hot spot capability, premium hardware and a new mobile app.

With the launch of an expanded Hum product lineup, driving experiences can be made safer, smarter and more connected, according to Verizon. Hum customers can now choose between three options, including the premium HumX service, which includes a brand-new Wi-Fi hot spot capability, premium hardware and a new mobile app. Interested consumers can find more information about the HumX device at Hum.com and they can also purchase it from Verizon Wireless stores as of March 23. The new Hum app can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store  for both current and new customers.

The HumX premium hardware package contains a 4G LTE OBD-II device and a stainless-steel Bluetooth speaker that clips to a car’s visor. The speaker supports HD voice for optimal audio quality and has LED touch icons for contacting Hum customer support functions such as roadside assistance, mechanics’ hotline and emergency assistance. The HumX Wi-Fi hot spot capability allows up to 10 devices to stream content over Verizon’s 4G LTE network. HumX also will launch with an enhanced vehicle location feature that allows users to visualize their vehicle moving on a map.

The standard Hum offering, including the core set of Hum features like auto health and diagnostics, driving history, boundary and speed alerts, and vehicle location, will now be known as Hum+. Also launched this week is a free app that allows consumers to access some of Hum’s basic features, or giving them the option of upgrading to either Hum+ or HumX.

All three Hum tiers will include two brand-new service features:

  • Safety Score calculates driving behavior on factors such as braking, cornering, acceleration and phone handling while driving. Safety Score also provides the driver with tips about safe driving.
  • Navigation provides turn-by-turn voice-guided directions, search by location name or address, and multiple route options based on estimated trip time and level of traffic congestion.

Customers can try out the two new features in the brand-new free Hum app, simply called Hum, by downloading the app from Google Play or the App store and creating a free account, which also will provide access to a wide range of retail, dining, service and travel discounts.

“Whether you’re enjoying the premium HumX with Wi-Fi hot spot, utilizing core features with Hum+ or introducing yourself to Hum with the free app, you can now feel more connected than ever,” said Michael Maddux, director of product at Verizon Telematics. “It’s the ideal platform for people who want to know more about their vehicle’s performance, improve their driving, or have peace of mind knowing they can reach Hum’s 24/7 roadside assistance at the press of a button.”

Hum is compatible with more than 150 million passenger vehicles, 1996 and newer on the road today. For pricing and information, visit a Verizon Wireless retail store or hum.com.
