Honda Fit Tech Tip: HVAC Blower Motor Works Only On High Speed

The HVAC blower motor on some Honda Fit vehicles may work only on high speed. This may be the result of excessive current draw from the HVAC blower motor which causes the blower resistor to fail.

SYMPTOM

The HVAC blower motor works only on high speed.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Excessive current draw from the HVAC blower motor causes the blower resistor to fail.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the HVAC blower motor and the blower resistor.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the passenger’s dashboard undercover:

• Gently pull down the front edge to detach the clips. (Figure 1)
• Pull the cover toward you to release the pins.

2. Replace the HVAC blower motor:

• Disconnect the connector.
• Remove the three screws and the blower motor. (Figure 2)
• Install the new blower motor with the three screws, then connect the connector.

3. Replace the blower resistor:

• Disconnect the connector.
• Remove the two screws and the blower resistor. (Figure 3)
• Install the new blower resistor with the two screws, then connect the connector.

4. Reinstall the passenger’s dashboard undercover by pushing the pins and the clips securely into place. Replace any damaged clips.
