Tech Tip: Kia Optima Won't Rev, Sets Code P0350

June 29, 2011

Vehicle application:
– 2002 and 2004 Kia Optima 2.4L, Vin 6, Eng Cfg L4
– 2005 Kia Optima EX 2.4L, Vin 6, Eng Cfg L4

Customer Concern:
The vehicle has a code P0350, indicating a faulty ignition coil circuit. At times the engine runs bad and won’t rev up; that is when it sets the code.

Potential Causes: Ignition coil, ignition failure sensor
Diagnostic Codes: P0350

Tests/Procedures:
1. Monitor the power to the coils when the problem occurs, if the coils have a drop in voltage, the ignition failure sensor may be faulty. The ignition failure sensor has four wires and is located near the back of the engine close to the coils.

2. Monitor the white and pink coil triggering signals with a lab scope to see if the signals look different when the problem occurs. If so, the coils may be faulty.
