Street Show
One of the best places to see some of the best strip/street vehicles is Michigan’s annual Woodward Dream Cruise (WDC) the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts more than 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles.
The 16th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise will be held on
Saturday, Aug. 21, and runs between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The WDC takes place along a 16-mile stretch of the legendary Woodward Avenue through eight host communities including Berkley, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak, in Southeast Michigan.
The WDC began as a fundraiser for a soccer field in Ferndale in 1995. In just a few short years, it evolved into the world's largest one-day automotive event. Spectators and cruisers travel to Metro Detroit, the birthplace of the American automobile, to demonstrate and participate in an event that celebrates an ongoing love affair with the automobile.
One item you'll see plenty of on displays and T-shirts is the latest WDC event logo which was designed by Mark Brendel. The auto artist also designed last year’s logo.
This year’s event logo features a 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible.
In commenting on the new logo, Greg Rassel, president of Woodward Dream Cruise, Inc., said, “We wanted to pay homage to a great muscle car brand that closed its doors last year. The ’67 Pontiac GTO optimizes that era of car and that’s why we chose it.”
There are no fees to drive in the WDC or to watch the cruise.
A few years back, I had the opportunity to visit the event as a guest with an aftermarket parts manufacturer and had a wonderful time checking out the cars, many of which are parked along the 16-mile stretch of Michigan's finest road.

Once you check out those sites, you're going to want to head up there yourself. If you do, enjoy the road trip.
